According to a report the Managing Authority of Structural Instruments in Romania, the Balkan country has absorbed only 10% of funds allocated by the EU in the three years that have elapsed since his accession.
Data published on the website of the Authority for the Coordination of Structural Instruments (ACIS) show that three years after accession to the European Union (EU), Romania has absorbed only 600 million euros from the EU, representing a 10% of available funds.
On 12 January, the ACIS published a list with the situation of European funds absorbed in December, when structural payments of approximately 40 million euros were made, almost two times less than in the previous month. According to that list, the value of payments in 2009 has fluctuated, peaked in January (177.6 million euros) and with substantial payments also in August (90 million) and November (82.1 million euros ).
In 2009, the greater absorption of funds was registered in the program of economic competitiveness, with 934 projects, and the regional programme, with 578 projects for implementation, with shares of absorption of 16.40% and 15.35%, respectively. A list with the funded programmes has also been issued, and it can be downloaded at Romanian Authority for the Coordination of Structural Instruments' website.
The programme with a lower progress has been the transport one, which, although it was one of the first projects, in December 2009 had the same level of absorption of 2.4% recorded in November. Also, the take-up has been little significant development programmes of administrative capacity (1.58%) and technical assistance (1.25%).
