Bucharest officially issued a memorandum to International Court of Justice -- the Hague. Romania proposing to share with Ukraine sea shelf and economic zones situated on it.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the official position of Kiev should be presented in the next 9 month. Juridical inquiry on this issue could stretch out up to two years.

Romania had already sent appellation to International Court, last autumn. Difficulties concerning Serpents’ Island arose, Bucharest call it rock and Kiev call it island, the same time insisting on existence of a special economic zone around it, reports NTN. After WWII, the Serpents’ Island was literally taken away from Romania by the Soviet Union – as no official act was issued on this matter.

Serpent Island is the biggest in Black Sea and represents a strong military-strategic location at the mouth of Danube River. During the Soviet-era there was a radiolocation station upon it. In 2002 it was demilitarized. Now the only military on the island are Ukrainian frontier guards.
