The Romanian government and the representatives of the World Bank (WB) concluded the discussions regarding the Strategic Partnership, covering a four year period, from June 2005 to June 2009, ACT Media news agency reports.

The partnership includes four main objectives for which the World Bank offers assistance and financing: Justice and local public administration reform, support for social programmes in education, health and pensions system, the improvement of fiscal management as well as fulfillment of commitments assumed for environmental standards.

The Director of the World Bank for Central and Southern Europe Anand Seth stated that WB and the Romanian Government agreed on a two-year project, involving 600 million dollars.

Some 200,000 or 300,000 dollars are expected from co-financing, but the Romanian government could ask for an increase or decrease of the sum depending on the success of the programme.
