EU Integration Minister Anca Boagiu: “Romania completed its homework” (May 15, 2006)

Minister Boagiu trusts that EC will issue a consistent report and she is looking forward for the positive final decision that the Council of Europe will take in June, EurActiv analysis reads today.

When asked by EurActiv.ro if she believes Romania’s accession date be delayed, Minister Boagiu said se assumes that Romania shall be judged according the progress it accomplished, progress to be mentioned by EC in the May 16 report, that gives the way to the Council of Europe to take proper decision in June. “To date, Romania believes to have its homework done and more than this, our major concern is to further keep up with efforts in order for the country to be prepared, by Jan 1st 2007, to become a proper European partner,” Boagiu said.

As about the dominant feature of the EC report tomorrow (i.e. technical or political), Minister Boagiu was hopeful that the document will display transparency, correctness and honesty.

When asked if Romania is likely to be pushed back by Bulgaria, Minister Anca Boagiu said each country should be assessed according to its actual merits and actual progress, while she showed confidence that reports will give full account of accomplishments performed by each country respectively.
